Print drag-and-drop from the desktop

Would like to be able to print a document directly from your desktop without first opening its application?

Screen

Select System Preferences from the Apple menu and click Print & Fax icon. In the preference pane that appears, click the button "Printer Settings", then press Command-L in the "About the printer" to see the box "Printer List".

Your printer will appear in this window. Click on the device and then choose "Create desktop printer in the Printers menu (in the menu bar). This opens a standard Open dialog box / Record that will ask where to save (on the desktop, in my case). Click Save and you will see the icon appear on your printer on the desktop. To print a document, simply drag this icon. Some documents, such as TextEdit and PDF, go directly to the printer, while others will launch their default application and open the Print window.
